Türkiye’nin, dünya sebze üretiminde 4., meyve üretiminde ise 6. sırada yer aldığını kaydeden Mersin Ticaret Borsası (MTB) Başkanı Abdullah Özdemir “Meyve ve sebze üretiminde en büyük sorun ürüne zarar veren bakteri ve virüs kaynaklı hastalıklar ile haşerelerdir. Bunlar hasat miktarını azaltmakta ve ürün kalitesini bozmaktadır. Bunlara karşı, dünyanın her yerinde olduğu gibi, ülkemizde de pestisit denilen kimyasal ilaçlarla mücadele edilmektedir.
Pestisit kullanmak bir tercih değil zorunluluktur. Pestisit kullanımına alternatifmiş gibi sunulan biyolojik mücadelenin kullanım alanı sınırlıdır. Her hastalık ve zararlıya karşı biyolojik mücadele yapılması mümkün değildir. Buna rağmen devletimiz biyolojik mücadeleye destek vermektedir. Bu desteklerin de etkisi ile biyolojik mücadele 15 kat artmıştır” diye konuştu.
Gıda Tarım Örgütü (FAO) verilerine göre Çin, İsrail, Güney Kore ve Japonya’da yıllık pestisit kullanımının hektar başına 10 kilogramın üzerinde olduğunu belirten Özdemir “Hollanda, Belçika, İrlanda, İtalya ve Portekiz gibi ülkelerde yıllık 5 kilogramı aşmaktadır. Almanya, Fransa, İspanya, Avusturya, İngiltere gibi ülkelerde ise 3 kilogramın üzerindedir. Türkiye’de yıllık ortalama hektar başına kullanılan pestisit miktarı 2,5 kilogramın altındadır. Bu ortalamalara bakıldığında ülkemiz Avrupa Birliği (AB) ortalamasının altında yer almaktadır” ifadelerini kullandı.
